The changes are amazing. Those who toured the school at our 45th
will find many more changes in this really modernized school!
The demographics have changed -- as well as the facilities!
No $ charge
- 11:00am - Tour of Memorial Stadium and UNL Athletic Department followed by lunch at the Champions Club at 12:30pm. Classmates should note that the
tour will not just focus on the football program. All facilities and programs
for student athletes, male and female, will be described and/or shown.
No $ charge for tour; lunch cost TBA
- 2:30pm - A variety of activities to choose from (if not stated below,
venues are yet to be determined).
Remember, these events are occurring simultaneously so don't sign up
for bridge AND golf. You can not be in two places at once! The events are:
- Wine-tasting at James Arthur Vineyards, Raymond, NE.*
- Golf at Wilderness Ridge Golf Course.
- Bridge for those interested.
- Tennis for those interested.
- Viewing of video of LSE vs Omaha South 1960 state basketball championship game.**
- Tour of Speedway Motors Museum (not just for gearheads -- this is
truly historical).*
- Tour of Strategic Air and Space Museum, Ashland, NE. An exceptional
place!
- 6:00pm - Cocktails and buffet at The Lodge at Wilderness Ridge.
This is the event to which we will invite the current LSE principal
and retired faculty and coaches.
Gus Amerman, our class vice-president will be our master of ceremonies.
The group classmate photo will be taken before or after the dinner.
Dinner cost TBA
- April 25, 2010 - Sunday
- 12:30pm - Casual, no-host lunch and libations at
Pattys's Pub (Pat Gillispie!).
* Buses cost $800. So, no buses. There will be a charge but obviously
transportation will be your responsibility! The estimated charge for the wine-tasting is $14 per person. Golf fees will be announced and will include
green fees and cart fees. Museum admission fees are probably nothing at the
Speedway, but admission to the Air and Space Museum will be in the range of
$10 per person. Military retirees get a discount as long as they have
retired identification.
** We are trying to arrange for several viewing
opportunities, starting with Friday night at the Harris home.
LSE won two state championships in 1960 -- baseball and swimming. Our
boys basketball team, however, was a finalist at state and lost by a few points to Omaha South. FYI: LSE has never won a state boys basketball title. The 1960 team came closest! To date, only five people have expressed interest in the video.
